About Us

About Us

Our school is influenced and inspired by the schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

Our staff began their study of the Reggio philosophy in 1989 and continue to research together ways to integrate the principles of this approach into our work with young children.

We view children as active constructors of knowledge.

Our educators organize learning experiences to create contexts for children to construct their own knowledge, initiate work, and become autonomous.

Here at FBDS, all children have a right to relationships. Relationships between children, between children and adults, between children and the environment. All of these promote an understanding of personal identity for children, as well as a sense of belonging.

Parents are viewed as partners in the learning process.

We welcome parents to collaborate and participate in the daily life of the school with listening as an essential component of the relationship.

The physical environment of our school is seen as a “third teacher” and is a powerful educational force. Our classrooms are designed as laboratories, rich in materials, tools, and resources that invite children to create, wonder and imagine.
